Lahinch-based artist Giulia Canevari explores the current ecological crisis through the examination of soil health and viability, addressing the issue of soil degradation and its threat to our existence.

 

Using her formal training in both botanical painting and horticulture, the artist makes close observations of natural forms from the Irish countryside as a departure point, where using meticulous techniques to express a call for a ‘re-wilding renaissance’ to benefit soil viability and fertility.

 

This collection of finely-made studies and installation works suggest the vital ingredients required, including the plants and seeds that can be used in the farm or garden to avoid soil compaction and add natural healthy nutrients to the earth.
